What wellness means to you and what a perfect morning looks like?
For me, wellness means to be synchronized with nature; to become one. In order to achieve this, I wake up every morning and go to the ocean to surf. Surfing is what I love most in the world; it helps quiet my mind and start my day relaxed.
Wellness is not about fancy things. It’s about finding something that teaches you, that makes you better and for a brief moment makes you feel like nothing else in the world exists. It’s a way to quiet your mind and reset your thoughts. Wellness is happiness and doing what you love..
Can you let us know what are some of the things you do to reduce your plastic consumption and manage waste?
In order to cause the least impact on the environment I try to live my life as eco friendly as possible. I do most of my shopping at farmers markets because I believe the first step in changing the global economy is to support your local community. It’s important to support local farms in order to keep them sustainable. An additional benefit of farmers markets is that the plastic consumption is basically zero. I try not to buy products that use plastic because not only does the production of plastic take away our planet’s natural resources but when disposed it is dumped into the environment and can’t be broken down. Using recycled cotton bags for groceries is another step I take to reduce plastic consumption.
Recycling and upcycling is a huge way that I give back to the environment. If I do happen to use a product that contains plastic I ALWAYS recycle. Only 9% of the world’s plastic is actually recycled and if we all recycled the environmental impact would be huge. Not only do I recycle and upcycle in my personal life but in my business as well. Alongfm is an eco friendly surf/skate company that I created, in which all of the products made are from recycled materials (ie.
skateboards, surfboards, surf fins, boardshorts) and a percentage of our product sales go back into helping keep our ocean clean.
These are some of the small ways I go about reducing plastic consumption that go a long way in saving our planet.
